‘Tan’ is a 13-year-old boy. Blue Dragon’s outreach workers met him living on the streets of Hanoi during summer. Tan evaded any questions about his hometown and family. It took the team over a month to gain his trust. Finally, Tan allowed the outreach staff to take him to his hometown to understand his situation and meet his family.
After driving for many hours, the team stopped. With Tan leading the way, they walked towards a lonely, abandoned house.
It was empty.
It has no door, no window frames, no electricity and no water. There was only one wooden bed in the house without a mattress. It was devastating to find that this was where this child had grown up and fled from.
It turned out that Tan grew up without his mother as she left when he was just 3 years old. His father is an alcoholic and rarely home. Tan survived because his uncles fed him occasionally. He felt so sad and wanted to run away. That was how he ended up in the city, becoming a street kid. He begged and fought for food.
Tan is now living in a Blue Dragon shelter. He has returned to school and discovered a passion for skateboarding.
You can support kids like Tan by making sure they have hot meals to nourish them through the northern winter.
It is a life changing gift because nutritious meals ensure that Tan grows up healthy and strong. It will also mean that he will be able to concentrate in school.
