Vy’s home situation was difficult. As her mother could not work, it was her brother who paid her school fees and allowance. This made Vy’s sister in law very unhappy, and she used to pick fights in the family because of it.
It was during the school holidays after Vy finished Grade 10 when she was approached by her neighbour. The woman offered Vy a chance to sell clothes with her in China, Vy didn’t hesitate. She accepted immediately so she would not be a burden to her family.
Unfortunately, instead of selling clothes, Vy found herself being sold as a forced bride to a Chinese man. She suffered for 7 months in a strange country, with no family nor friends in a terrible situation with a complete stranger, 2500km away from home. She was only 16 years old then.
After her rescue by Blue Dragon, Vy found that it was impossible to live at home. She suffered social stigma from her neighbours and relatives, who thought of her as ‘dirty’’, even though she was the victim in the case.
Blue Dragon therefore cared for her, and gave her a safe place to live. She is now in Grade 12 and preparing for the university entrance examination.
Vy can flourish and follow her dreams because she is safe – and feels safe. This Christmas, you can give safe haven to trafficked survivors like Vy.
