In 2017, ‘Tra’ traveled from her hometown in southern Vietnam to China, where she was promised a job and the chance of a better life.
However, Tra was forced to marry a stranger and then had a baby. Imprisonment and abuse broke her will to escape until Tra discovered that her one-year old daughter was in danger. Because Tra’s baby was a girl, the father’s family planned to sell the child.
Tra risked her life by secretly calling her family in Vietnam for help. When the message reached Blue Dragon we knew it was urgent, and immediately put a rescue operation into action. Three days later, Tra and her daughter were free.
As today is Mother’s Day in many countries, we invite you to celebrate the courage of a mother who put her own life at risk to protect her child.
