A narrow escape from trafficking

A narrow escape

‘Trinh’, a Grade 9 student in northern Vietnam, was excited to see her friend ‘May’ again. May had been away working in China for some months, and had so many interesting stories to tell. Life across the border seemed so much better than in Trinh’s quiet little village!

When May invited Trinh to go on a short trip to China together, Trinh was just so happy.

The two friends crossed the border into China, where a strange man was waiting for them. Things escalated quickly when the man tried to take Trinh’s phone away. In a panic, Trinh ran away, but had no idea where she was or how to get home. She walked for hours until she found a police station to ask for help. Chinese police then contacted Blue Dragon to help.

Blue Dragon took Trinh home on Wednesday, and soon she will be back in school. As 2017 comes to an end, we are glad that one more young woman will be safe from harm and exploitation.
