The judge in the circuit court in a remote northern area has sentenced two traffickers to 9 and 8 years in prison. The circuit court room was packed with the local ethnic minority community who heard how the traffickers fooled 2 sisters. ‘Mai’ and ‘Lien’ were promised $672 a month to work on a ginger farm in China. However, when they got there, they found themselves sold as forced brides. They were 200km apart and could not contact each other. After 11 months of misery, they were rescued by Blue Dragon. Lien is now in Grade 10 and being supported by Blue Dragon to study in the city. Mai is back in the village with her parents. And the two traffickers will be behind bars.
