The Blue Dragon Book Fair in New Zealand was a huge success

May 28, 2025

The Blue Dragon Book Fair on 17 and 18 May in Wellington, New Zealand was a great success, raising $31,000 – a new record in the event’s 14-year history!

The money will fund Blue Dragon’s work caring for children and teens who have been rescued from slavery and homelessness, including accommodation, nutritious food and psychological counselling.

Before the event began, so many book donations flooded in that trustees in Blue Dragon New Zealand had to call for extra help sorting them out. The response from the local community was incredible, as movers, book shops, rowing club members and local students turned up to pack, sort, move and sell the great piles of books.

Students from the Interact Club of Port Nicholson helped to sort the books.

The day itself was a testament to the joy – and the life-changing power – of community. Hundreds of people filled the hall, searching through boxes of page-turners and exchanging stories while supporting a great cause.

“My highlight is seeing the varied community we serve,” shares Kirsty, who helped to organise the event. “I love the delight of readers finding treasures at bargain prices. Of course, this is in addition to thinking we can help the Blue Dragon programmes in a small way.”
