Skye Maconachie has been named as a recipient of the James Cook University Outstanding Alumni Award, and has been honoured with the Chancellor’s Outstanding Alumnus Award for her “tireless compassion” and “vision for a better world.”

Skye received an Outstanding Alumni Award for her contribution to the field of the Arts, Society and Education on Friday morning, September 9.

The award acknowledges the exceptional impact she has had on the lives of many thousands of children and families in both Vietnam and Australia in her roles as a social worker and a leader of Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation.

In addition to this award, Skye was given the very special recognition of the Chancellor’s Outstanding Alumnus Award. James Cook University Chancellor Bill Tweddell highlighted Skye’s “truly admirable commitment” to improving the lives of Vietnamese children and families, and said the work of Blue Dragon’s co-CEO “is an example to us all about making a difference through the power of volunteering” and social work.

“I am so proud to receive this recognition from my university, and I especially thank Chancellor Bill Tweddell for conferring me with this award,” Skye said.

“Nothing is more important to me than serving others. As a co-CEO at Blue Dragon, I work with an incredible team of like-minded people. For all of us, every day is a new opportunity to help children, families, and communities thrive. Nothing could be more rewarding.”
