Blue Dragon’s emergency support continues as floods devastate regions across Vietnam

November 24, 2025

Storm after storm

Between July and November 2025, a succession of storms hit some of Vietnam’s poorest communities. From the northern mountains to the southern delta, people’s homes, possessions and businesses were destroyed as flooding and landslides tore through towns and villages.

As the crisis unfolded, Blue Dragon travelled from town to town assessing the damage and offering emergency assistance. By boat, bike and foot, we made sure people did not have to face the floods alone. Now, as the rainy season eases and the floodwaters recede, we’re rebuilding communities stronger than before.

Villages have been devastated as rivers burst their banks.

Emergency support

In coastal provinces, dozens of communities have remained submerged for weeks. Roads have been cut off and vital bridges collapsed, isolating remote villages without power or any means to contact the outside world.

“I went to two villages that were completely cut off because the roads were impassable,” shares a Blue Dragon social worker. “People there had been isolated for more than two weeks. That day we managed to assist nearly 20 families.”

Across affected areas, Blue Dragon is supplying people with food, clean water and daily necessities while putting them up in safe accommodation. We are making sure children have been able to keep attending school, meaning their education remains unimpacted throughout the chaos.

In some of the worst hit areas around central Vietnam, many people have had to flee their home several times as multiple storms hit the same areas over a four-month period. Villages suffered landslides and power outages, cutting them off from the outside world.

One particularly vulnerable community has been isolated for over two months. Travelling by boats, Blue Dragon continues to deliver food and supplies while we wait for the floodwaters to recede. Because commuting from home is impossible, many children have had to temporarily live at their school, putting extra strain on schools and families.

Rebuild

Right now, Blue Dragon remains focused on emergency support – food and supplies, safe accommodation and keeping children in school – but this is just the beginning.

To fully recover from this drawn-out ordeal, children and families will need new homes, new household items, new school supplies, psychological care and support to start new businesses. Blue Dragon will be there through it all.

With Blue Dragon by their side, communities will come back stronger and more resilient than before the storms hit. Because when we support families to turn their lives around, we make sure they have everything they need to thrive for generations to come.

You are welcome to be a part of Blue Dragon’s response to this crisis by donating here. All funds will go toward emergency assistance in the short term and the effort to rebuild in coming weeks and months.
