Blue Dragon’s Skye Maconachie receives the Global Australian Award
This November, Blue Dragon’s Skye Maconachie received the Global Australian Award for community and social impact.
Each year, Advance Global Australians presents the award to Australians living overseas who have shown incredible commitment to inspiring others and shaping global communities.
Skye first volunteered for Blue Dragon as an English teacher 20 years ago. She expanded her lessons to teach theatre and drumming before becoming a social worker.

“For me, this award means so much. I’m a social worker by trade and most of the time we spend our energy helping others, focusing on others and resolving complex issues, so it’s really wonderful to be acknowledged for this work.”
After 15 years of dedicating her time and energy to helping children thrive, Skye became Blue Dragon co-CEO in 2019.
Every day, Skye leads our mission to end human trafficking with a relentless belief that everybody deserves the chance to build a beautiful life. She runs long-term projects and day-to-day activities with a hands-on approach and a big smile for everyone she meets.
During her time as co-CEO, Skye has shown her strength as a leader by helping to steer Blue Dragon through the COVID-19 pandemic and various natural disasters, including our Typhoon Yagi relief effort.

“I have a very strong belief that everyone has the right to shine but many people don’t have the opportunity to do that,” she shares. “Being able to do that is hugely inspiring for me and keeps me going, seeing the lives that we change every day.”
This well-deserved recognition will give Skye even more motivation to keep fighting for a future where every child grows up with opportunities to realise their potential in a world that is free from slavery.
