The judge accepted Blue Dragon’s chief lawyer’s argument that the traffickers should be penalised more heavily as they knew that the victim was pregnant at the time she was sold to China. Followers of this page may recall that at the end of December 2015, Blue Dragon rescued ‘Linh’ who was sold to a Chinese man (read her story here: http://bit.ly/2ouDVgF)
Following her rescue, Blue Dragon assisted her to make statements to the police, which resulted in the arrest of the traffickers.
Justice has finally been served. Blue Dragon represented Linh and two other victims of the same traffickers in court. The traffickers are only 24 years old, just a few years older than the girls they sold to China. The judge handed sentences of 13 years and 6 years in prison respectively to the men. Blue Dragon’s lawyer also advocated for compensation to be paid to the girls for their pain and suffering. They were awarded US$10,000 in total, with Linh receiving a higher percentage than the other two girls. This heavier sentencing is a win for everyone involved with anti-trafficking activities.
