Ngoc’s Letter of Thanks to Blue Dragon

As Thanksgiving approaches, all of us at Blue Dragon are taking a moment to reflect on what we’re grateful for. High on that list are the people around the world who stand with children in crisis and believe in their futures.

This week, a letter arrived at the Blue Dragon centre from Ngoc, a young woman we supported throughout her years of schooling. She has now graduated from university and is building a future she once never imagined possible. With her permission, we would like to share with you her gratitude, translated directly from her own words.

“As I look back on my four-year university journey, I feel deeply grateful for the opportunity to become one to receive a scholarship from Blue Dragon. Throughout these four years, the program has provided invaluable support for both me and my family.

Since middle school, I always dreamed of going to university in the city, stepping out of my small hometown to explore the wider world. My family often told me, ‘Maybe you shouldn’t. Studying at university costs a lot of money. Just getting a job is good enough.’ I was heartbroken and spent a lot of time thinking about it, but all I could do was study hard in class and hold on to my own hope.

At the end of grade 12, Blue Dragon came to my school to share about a scholarship program for students in difficult circumstances but with strong determination to rise above them. My teachers encouraged me to apply. The moment I received the news that I was selected was truly one of the happiest days of my life. It felt as though my dream had finally been heard and I’d been given wings to fly.”

This is Ngoc and Bluey at the 2025 Blue Dragon Walk. Ngoc took part as her way of giving back to others in need.

“To me, Blue Dragon has been like a second family in the unfamiliar capital city. Here, I received care, support and encouragement that helped me stay confident and keep striving forward. Thanks to you, after graduating, I was able to apply successfully for a job and now work at a travel company.

My family and I would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for the support and companionship of the Blue Dragon community and all the dedicated staff who have always cared for and helped me. I will continue to strive harder and always be ready to contribute whenever the organization needs.”
