Last week,15 year old ‘Ly’ dropped by to see the Blue Dragon team in central Vietnam. Blue Dragon rescued Ly from a sweatshop just 3 months ago and she has already returned to school with tuition support and the aid of a new bicycle.
The teenager shared her achievements with Ngoc, her social worker, and talked proudly of her good grades in Literature which is now her favorite subject.
Ly’s social worker Ngoc was the very first person who Blue Dragon rescued from trafficking back in 2005, when he was just 13. Ly and Ngoc had a great catch up, with Ly proudly sharing her achievements in school and Ngoc helping out with an impromptu IT lesson.
Ly was pleased to get some help with her study, but it is Ngoc’s story of how he overcame a tough past to become a social worker helping other trafficked children that encouraged her the most.
And now Ly knows that she, too, can inspire others with her story.
