Typhoon Yagi: A rapidly unfolding crisis.
It’s been an overwhelming few days here at Blue Dragon.
Just as we have seen thousands of families torn from their homes, we have seen how our friends across the globe rise up, join hands and reach out to people when they need it most.
Typhoon Yagi has destroyed homes, buildings and bridges. It has uprooted thousands of trees. And as heavy rains continue to fall across northern Vietnam, landslides and flooding will further disrupt people’s lives in the coming days, weeks and months.
Over 197 people have lost their lives in the storm, and over 128 are still missing.

Devastation
When it became clear that the Red River in Hanoi was rising dangerously fast, Blue Dragon evacuated our headquarters in Hanoi. Some staff returned home to work remotely, others took vulnerable children to our emergency shelter, and many more began delivering life-saving food and supplies to families affected by the extreme weather.
People who barely had anything have lost everything.
In remote northern communities, villages are being trampled by flooding and landslides. Homes have been destroyed. People’s livestock, which families depend on to survive, have been drowned. Roads have collapsed, footpaths are now rivers, and families who have nothing left are trapped without food and shelter.

Hope
With your help, we can get to these people. The response from the Blue Dragon community has been incredible. Donations have been coming in thick and fast over the last two days, and we have been rolling out food and supplies to vulnerable people just as quickly.
Through flooded streets and crumbling mountain paths, we are out delivering food and supplies to the people who need it most. We are providing families whose homes have been destroyed with safe accommodation. When this is all over and the floodwater finally recedes, we will help those people to rebuild their homes and their lives.

But it will be a long, traumatic process for families who have watched their lives swept away in the floods. As well as new homes, people will need livelihood support, food and drinking water, medical care and psychological counseling.
It is a long road ahead, but with you at our side, we will get there.
Blue Dragon is raising vital funds to provide emergency support to families affected by Typhoon Yagi. If you can make a donation, we’d be very grateful.
