How do street kids survive? How do children from very poor families cope? These questions were answered by Blue Dragon during a walk with UWC students. They visited Long Bien market where some Blue Dragon kids’ parents work. They earn barely enough to put food on the table. This market is also where street kids carry heavy loads to earn a few cents, and where they eat discarded food to survive. The students stopped at Long Bien bridge where Blue Dragon’s outreach workers find many street kids who sleep there. Finally, they visited a Blue Dragon kid whose home is a ramshackle boat on the river. One of the students summed it up by saying “I never knew how difficult it is for them. It is different seeing it with my own eyes, than just reading about it.”
