Protecting children and families

Blue Dragon’s approach to lasting change begins with our direct services for children in need.

Education and training

Keeping children in school is the best way to prevent exploitation.

84% of trafficking victims and 93% of traffickers are illiterate or left school before completing high school.

Scholarships and tuition support, from preschool to tertiary education, are essential – but they are only part of the answer.

In remote ethnic communities, we identify children who have stopped going to school or are at risk of dropping out, then help their families get them back into the classroom. More than 65% return to school and stay there.

From city streets to remote villages, Blue Dragon’s life skills, leadership and extracurricular programs keep disadvantaged children engaged in education.

Employment pathways

Unsafe migration in search of employment places people at high risk of exploitation.

Through career counselling, vocational training, tertiary education scholarships and classes to develop life skills, we help young people unlock their potential.

Practical assistance to find employment – and to stay employed – ensures success.

Entrepreneurship

By providing families with assistance to start small businesses and farms, we make sure they can become self-sufficient. When people have income of their own, they are far less vulnerable to the traps of human traffickers.

With seed funding and hands-on training, families can take control of their own future.

Safety training and cyber literacy

Many victims of trafficking have been tricked by online scams and fraudulent job offers.

By teaching cyber safety and literacy along with concrete skills to detect fraudulent recruitment, we help people identify and reduce the risk of falling victim to trafficking.

Legal identity

Lack of legal documentation such as birth certificates creates barriers for children to access school and healthcare services. All of this increases vulnerability to human trafficking.

Blue Dragon’s lawyers and social workers assist children and family members to register for necessary legal papers and deliver training to ensure they understand their rights and responsibilities under the law.

By implementing a range of innovative interventions, Blue Dragon is giving disadvantaged children and families the tools to break free from poverty.

Even more, we are creating opportunities for a brighter future.

Ten years ago I would never have dared to dream of a life with a stable job and a good salary like I have now. I feel good because I never gave up.
