Blue Dragon just facilitated a circuit court in a district where a rooster’s crow can also be heard in China and Laos. It is 200km on mountainous roads from the nearest town in north-eastern Vietnam. The hearing was conducted under tarpaulin sheets and the local community heard the case of the trafficker who befriended a young woman so he could sell her to a brothel in China.
Blue Dragon worked with the Justice Department to bring the court case to this remote community because we have rescued 13 trafficking victims from this district. It was an important awareness raising exercise to alert the locals of the dangers of trafficking. Blue Dragon also represented the young woman in this court case. The trafficker was sentenced to 4 years in prison and a substantial fine.
